Preheat Temperature Estimate
PRHTC supports engineering estimation of preheat requirements for ferritic steels.
The Pre-Heat Temperature Calculator (PRHTC) is used to estimate preheat temperature for arc welding of ferritic steels.
The calculation considers the combined effects of CET carbon equivalent, specific heat input, combined wall thickness and diffusible hydrogen content. These factors influence preheat requirements through hardenability of the heat-affected zone, heat dissipation, cooling conditions and hydrogen-assisted cold-cracking risk.
The application range of the Uwer–Höhne relationship is CET 0.20–0.50%, d 10–90 mm, HD 1–20 ml/100 g and Q 0.5–4.0 kJ/mm.
